The Diabetes Prevention Committee continues to work in concert with the California Department of Public Health as they finalize and implement an action plan to prevent type 2 diabetes by utilizing the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). CDPH hosted two in-person meetings in 2016 with stakeholders from throughout the state to share progress in the four pillar/focus areas: Awareness of prediabetes and the DPP, Availability and support for existing DPP programs, Coverage/reimbursement for the DPP and Screening, Testing and Referral to the DPP. The DCC made a presentation at one of the meetings about the pilot internship program we conducted with students from California State University East Bay. Over 800 student hours were dedicated to raising awareness about prediabetes and the National Diabetes Prevention Program. Some students elected to focus on a national campaign called Screen at 23, to build awareness about prediabetes and diabetes in the Asian American community.
